Accessibility

unmaskd. is built for neurodivergent people. Accessibility is not an afterthought — it shapes how we make every decision about the platform. We are actively working to improve accessibility and fix barriers as we find them.

Our commitment

We are working toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. Accessibility testing is ongoing. Known limitations are documented as we prepare for launch. If you find a barrier, we treat it as a serious issue.

We do not claim full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance yet — that requires a documented, tested audit we have not completed. We will publish conformance claims only when they are accurate.

Display

  • No autoplay: no videos, sounds, or animations play without you starting them
  • No flashing content: nothing on this platform flashes, strobes, or rapidly transitions

Display customisation — font options, size modes, and themes — is planned and in development. We will describe these options here once they are implemented and tested.

Communication accessibility

  • Message read-aloud: messages can be read aloud using your device's built-in text-to-speech where supported by the browser — no special setup required
  • Communication styles on profiles: every profile can display how someone prefers to communicate — direct, text-preferred, slow replies okay — so you know what to expect before you reach out
  • No read receipts: messages do not show whether they have been read. Pressure to reply immediately is a barrier for many neurodivergent people.
  • Async-first design: nothing on this platform is designed to demand real-time responses

We are working toward full keyboard navigability and screen reader support. Some accessibility improvements are already in place; others are in progress. We have not yet completed a systematic audit of keyboard focus states, tap target sizes, or ARIA implementation across all pages.

  • Predictable layout: navigation does not move, rearrange, or surprise you; every page follows the same structure
  • Keyboard and focus improvements: in progress — we are auditing and fixing focus states, tap targets, and screen reader labels before launch

Profile accessibility features

unmaskd. profiles are built specifically to communicate information that most social platforms ignore:

  • Support needs are first-class profile data — body doubling, processing time, quiet environments, reminders helpful — visible to connections who want to be a good fit for you
  • ND identifiers are optional and self-described — no diagnosis required, no official labels enforced; you pick what feels true to you
  • Visibility toggles: you control whether ND identifiers, support needs, and communication styles show on your public profile
